State Inspections are held during the week days between 1PM and 5PM during business hours at 501 Automotive.
(Company policy: We will not do inspections during the rain)

Inspect horn for:
- Presence, mounting, and working condition
- Wiring and actuating device
- Audibility and unreasonably harsh sound
Inspect windshield wipers for:
- Required number of wipers
- Condition of wiper blades
- Operates freely and proper adjustment

Inspect seatbelts for:
- Presence of front seat belts (when required)
- Unsafe belts, attachments fittings, and buckles
- Anchor bolts

Inspect tire for:
- Worn spots that expose ply or cord through the tread
- Tread cuts, fabric breaks, snags. sidewall cracks
- Visible bumps, bulges, or knots
- Tread less than 2/32″ in any two adjacent major grooves in the center or middle of the tire

Inspect emission for:
- Examine visually for presence of system
- Connections loose, broken, leaking, or improper routed
- System has been altered, removed, or disconnected

Inspect license plate lamp for:
- Mounting and wiring
- Illumination of license plate with white light
- Lighting when headlamps are lighted

Inspect turn signal lamp for:
- Mounting, visibility, and approved type
- Color of light and condition of lens
- Wiring, switch, dashboard indicator, and proper indications
- Self-illuminated and automatic flashing

Inspect side marker lamps for:
- Mounting, location, wiring, and visibility
- Cracked, broken, missing lens, and required color

Inspect school buses (Additional items) for:
- School bus sign
- Fire extinguisher
- Warning lamps
- Convex crossover mirror
Inspect mirror for:
- Secure mounting and clear view to the rear
- Condition of reflecting surface
- Cracked or broken glass

Inspect service break system for:
- Visible leaks in brake lines, wheel cylinders, or other parts of the system
- Frayed or leaking hoses or cables, or unsafe mechanical parts
- Insufficient pedal reserve and fluid level in master cylinder
- Unsatisfactory stopping distance and equalization
- Metal on metal contact

Inspect wheel assemblies for:
- Defective or bent rim flanges; loose, missing or damaged bolts, nuts, studs or lugs
- Defects and cracks that may impair safe mounting and proper retention of tires

Inspect beam indicator for:
- Proper switching indication
- Visibly without glare

Inspect rear reflectors for:
- Color, location, and condition of lens
- Mounting and visibility

Inspect headlamps for:
- Mounting and approved type
- Improper connections, switching and dimmer switch, and wiring
- Cracked, broken, or missing lens
- Physical damage causing headlight beam to insufficiently illuminate the roadway
- Dirt, moisture, contamination, or discoloration
Inspect cab lamps for: (Truck tractors only)
- Mounting, location, wiring, and visibility
- Cracked, broken, missing lens, and required color and number
Aftermarket sun screening (Glass coating or tinting) for:
- Minimum light transmission
- Color (must not be red, blue, or amber)
- Windshield tint is below AS-1 line or none, then 5″ from top
Inspect steering system for:
- Excessive lash and free movement without jamming
- Mounting and condition of steering mechanism
- Fluid level and visible leaks in power steering unit
- Modified steering wheel adversely affecting steering

Inspect parking brake system for:
- Does not hold when in forward gear and engine accelerated
- Any mechanical parts missing, broken, badly worn, or not operating properly
- Not fully released when the release control is operated

Inspect exhaust system for:
- Vehicle is not equipped with a muffler, or has holes, leaking seams, or patches
- System or its elements not securely fastened to vehicle; loose or leaking joints
- Any part of exhaust system passes through (or terminates beneath) the passenger compartment
- Tail pipe broken, pinched, or eroded allowing fumes to penetrate passenger compartment

Inspect tail lamps for:
- Lamp does not completely emit plainly visible red light
- Mounting, visibility, required number, and lens condition
- Connected to burn when headlamps burn, and proper wiring
- Any lamp projects a white light to the rear (except license plate lamp and backup lamp)

Inspect clearance lamps for: (Vehicles wider than 80″)
- Mounting and location
- Required color
- Cracked, broken, or missing lens
- Wiring and visibility
Inspect side reflectors for:
- Color, location, and condition of lens
- Mounting and visibility
gas cap for:
- Check for presence
- Pressure test on vehicles 2-24 model years old
- Gasoline powered only
Inspect safety guards or flaps for:
- Height, width, mounting, condition, and location
- Construction and material
